MANAGEMENT & REPORTING STRUCTURE
The Buyer will report to the Divisional Merchandise Manager for the relevant category line. They will work in team concept and directly supervise a Buyer Assistant and have dotted line responsibility for one Allocator, RA and a Planner.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Responsible for achieving and or exceeding the financial plan, gross margin plan and turn plan for his/her respective category by developing and implementing merchandising strategies through advertising planning, in store visual planning, purchase planning, and leadership of respective category.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Responsible for establishing retail price and margin.
• Responsible for directing private label department towards potential products or classifications that could be our own brand and analyzing potential incremental margin.
• Performs timely execution of planogram sets and soft-line floor sets.
• Provide planogram weeks of supply to Visual Department
• Develops merchandise plans in an effort to meet or beat the financial plan
• Identifies and partners with the Planner to develop vendor plans that meet or exceed vendor plans
• Develops and presents a business strategy/business review to upper management.
• Performs competitive assortment analysis of all branded & non-branded assortments, as needed.
• Analyzes sales trends against Assortment Plan/Planogram and develops strategies as appropriate.
• Keeps abreast of product trends through industry research and develops strategies as appropriate.
• Works with vendor community on emerging trends, assortments, and business strategy.
• Achieves plan inventory turn though partnering with Planner & managing inventory and receipt flow.
• Partners with Planner in managing inventory and entire receipt flow to deliver products in a timely manner while staying within open to buy budget.
• Works with Replenishment Analyst as needed to, review in stocks and responsible for providing the RA the replenishment item assortment template.
• Responsible for getting approval for new SKU's, PO extensions, cancellations, and manages backordered goods.
• Reviews aged inventory results with Planning division and develops appropriate exit strategy that fits the plan
• Negotiates and updates vendor deal sheets on a yearly basis, including program allowances/entitlements
• Monitors and ensures TEM plan is attained or exceeded
• Partners with Business Analysis and Advertising in stock group to deliver 100% compliance to advertising in-stocks
• Performs on-going negotiations for special allowances and entitlements.
• Works with vendor community to develop product differentiation (i.e. special buys and SMU)
• Develops advertising strategy to deliver and/or exceed financial plan.
• Partners with Business Analysis in analyzing historical performance of products to support space allocation.
• Selects individual items and categories to advertise for respective area and recommends items for premium space by month. (Ad item selection)
• Presents seasonal Advertising Strategy in ad planning meetings and coordinates with Planning, Business Analysis and Advertising and obtains approval of ad plans from corporate executive management. Buyer is responsible for being the expert for his/her area.
• Responsible for timely ad delivery preparations.
• Partners with Business Analysis on ad performance and adjusts future ads appropriately
• Ensures SDQ, pre-pack, case pack, musical and VAS initiatives are executed
• Partners with Planning on base promotional clearance analysis and makes changes as needed
• Partners with Vendor Compliance Analyst to investigate any disputed chargebacks
• Manage monthly mark-downs and ensure it meets the financial plan
• Responsible for other duties as assigned or developed.
Requirements:
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in business or equivalent relevant experience.
• 5-7 years retail buying experience.
• Retail operations or management experience preferred.
• Strong computer skills.
• Strong negotiation, communication, analytical and organizational skills.
• Ability to solve a wide range of complex, multi-disciplinary problems, which must consider short and intermediate term company-wide planning.
• Ability to compose sensitive, non-routine correspondence requiring tact and diplomacy and or complex reports or summaries for which established formats generally do not exist.
• Ability to negotiate with outsiders and insiders in sensitive and complex situations.
• Ability to improve existing systems or procedures which periodically result in new ideas or approaches of considerable significance.
