Description :
This position establishes short-term and long-term product strategies to achieve net sales, net margin, SKU productivity for the Top-of-Car category, and long-term strategy that will ensure brand vision and corporate objectives are met. The category managed by this position includes Top-of-Car Racks, Top-of-Car Bike, Boat, and Snow, and related Accessories, product life cycles, and new product opportunities not yet identified. This position is the Top-of-Car category expert, understanding customer needs and the competitive environment. The Top-of-Car Category Business Manager is the primary point of contact between product categories and leads and facilitates various the cross-functional organizational teams, including participation from the Marketing, Product Development, Supply Chain, Finance and Manufacturing departments. Other key aspects of this position contribute to achieving and sustaining the Yakima Strategic Business Plan and Initiatives, global competitive advantage, and profitable market growth strategy.


Scope & Responsibilities:
• Establish, implement, and lead near-term and long-term category strategy to achieve net sales, net margin, SKU productivity, market share and P&L for the Top-of-Car category
• Develop, facilitate, and implement product business plans for current and new categories to achieve strategic business goals
• Contribute to Yakima’s position as the “Category Expert” in the minds of the customer and consumer
• Provide “Go to Market management cross-functional team focus related to the Product Development Process


Specific Duties:
• Develop the long-term product category plans including vision, features, and functionality; articulate the fit of each product within the corporate strategy, including long-term product cycle (three to five year) planning
• Manage Product category life cycles developing and recommending appropriate changes and initiatives to sustain profitability company growth
• Identify and implement a regular system of customer and dealer research for each new product program
• Develop and implement new product business cases, including costing, pricing, positioning, sales forecasting, replacement versus incremental sales analysis, and net present value
• Monitor and participate in the product development system to ensure on-time, on-budget, and high-quality delivery of all product programs
• Serve as the product category expert, understanding customer needs and the competitive environment, and communicating both to the Marketing and Product Development departments regularly
• Participate in the Quality and Warranty process
• Acquire and maintain knowledge of customer and consumer needs through regular communications to gain general and product specific consumer and dealer feedback, including review of sales, warranty and customer service information; communicating findings to appropriate organizational teams
• Provide competitive analysis by acquiring intimate knowledge of competitive environment and developments in the industry, channels, and categories; communicating findings to appropriate organizational teams
• Participate in demand planning and product availability forecasting; influence the marketing mix for new products
• Participate in the development of product marketing messages for consumer and dealer communications
• Collaborate with appropriate staff to expand sales and market share by selling products through: Original Equipment Manufacturer, Warehouse Distributor, and other potential sales channels
• Work closely with Product Development through the critical stages of new product development to insure that new products meet Yakima’s fit standards of safety, durability and ease-of-use
• Carry out in an effective manner other duties, responsibilities, and projects as may be assigned
Requirements:
Qualifications:
• B.S. or B.A. degree from an accredited college/university in Business or related field required
• MBA preferred
• Three (3) years of international sales/brand/category management experience
• Five (5) years of experience in consumer products management and hard goods manufacturing
• Demonstrated knowledge of market and consumer research, trends, market drivers, and customers
• Knowledge of the outdoor sports industry, particularly bike, boat, snow sports and camping
• Knowledge of the Automotive Aftermarket industry preferred
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
• Excellent financial analysis and knowledge of business processes
• Demonstrated success in growing product category or business channels
• Strong computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Office suite (especially
Excel & PowerPoint) required
• Strong interpersonal communication and coaching skills
• Strong presentation skills
• Five (5) years project management experience
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
• Written and Oral Skills: English mandatory
• Multilingual skills, European, Latin American, or Asian, either oral or written a plus
• Entrepreneurial aptitude for business, product development and marketing desired

Physical Requirements:
• Able to lift or carry materials that may weigh up to 50 lbs
• Most tasks require close vision abilities
• Must be able to travel up to 25%, including approximately 50% international
• Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time
• Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis
• Must have corrected vision to 20/30 and not color blind
• Must be able to travel internationally via commercial carrier
