Description :
The Technical Designer (TD) position is accountable for the development & commercialization of products within an assigned area of responsibility, in accordance with established development processes, established quality standards and the company time line. He or she manages aspects of the development/commercialization process having to do with specification package and sample development. He or she may participate in creative process of product depending on skill set and experience.
Requirements:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (Other responsibilities may be assigned.)
1. Maintain development documents: seasonal product development work in process status documents.
2. Timeline - Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in multiple seasons progressing at the same time. Tactical problem solving skills to coordinate multi-functional efforts to meet the line development calendar .Work multiple seasons concurrently, requiring the ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities and details while adhering to timelines for each season to meet release dates.
3. Must be a team player
4. Create and maintain product specification packages using Marmot’s approved methodology from 1st prototype through to spec handoff to production.
5. Coordinate all factory communication for the development of all levels of proto-types. Communicate approved and/or updated specifications - work with contractors, design department & materials staff for all levels of prototyping for production commercialization & handoff to production QA staff.
6. As skill set allows – work with designers for product “fittings” where necessary giving feedback & communicating fit changes to factories. Ability to interpret design intent and offer alternative solutions.
7. Organization skills are critical for this position as well as problem solving skills.
8. Ensure that Company standards for quality, function and reducing environmental impacts are met.
9. 4 year degree in fashion design ,production management or equal 4+ years on the job experience in design, development, production &/or merchandising.
10. Knowledge of apparel construction, material construction and properties, pattern making, costing, embroidery and surface applications (e.g. screen printing, etc).
11. Understanding of the design, development and merchandising process from inception through production.
12. Working knowledge of personal computers with experience in such programs as Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft office, EXCEL, PowerPoint.
13. Possible travel, domestically and internationally, utilizing various methods of transportation.
